BioBalance Astaxanthin is naturally sourced from the algae Haematococcus pluvialis. Astaxanthin is a carotenoid, an intensely red fat-soluble pigment which gives the red colour in salmon, crayfish, krill and pink flamingos! Its antioxidant effect is much stronger than CoQ10, ALA and Vitamin C, providing potent support for recovery after we exercise, clear vision and smooth healthy skin tone as we age.

Is this safe for my dog?

Astaxanthin is safe to give to dogs and cats and a recent research study by Washington State University on both young and elderly beagles reported an improvement in mitochondrial function, generating more energy in the dogs. Studies also show astaxanthin supports joint and muscle recovery after exercise, and cardiovascular health in dogs and cats. The WSU study gave a dosage of 20mg astaxanthin daily. I can’t advise a specific dosage for your dog, but the adult human dosage for BioBalance Astaxanthin is 1-3 softgels (4-12mg) per day. We suggest you consult with a naturopathic vet or animal health practitioner for guidance. If you decide to supplement your dog’s diet with our product we’d love to have feedback from you about the results.

Can I take this product whilst breastfeeding or pregnant?

While astaxanthin is generally regarded as safe, there is a lack of research involving pregnant and breastfeeding women. The general recommendation is for women who are pregnant or might become pregnant to use it cautiously (meaning limit your dosage) because it can influence hormonal output. Although not contraindicated while breastfeeding, its not recommended because not enough is known about its effect on the baby.

Can this be used for high blood pressure?

Astaxanthin has proven anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antihypertensive, and antioxidative actions. There is evidence from a 2005 study (Hussein et al) on hypertensive rats that astaxanthin is effective in reducing high blood pressure.

High blood pressure is an outward sign that your body is not functioning well at a deeper level. The underlying cause needs to be addressed, and astaxanthin will be most effective when taken as part of a healthy dietary and lifestyle approach to wellness.

I found this product amazing, I have had rough backs of my arms since I was a young child. I have many people give advise on what they thought it could be and have wasted lots of money on products. But this product worked and within 2 days I noticed a huge improvement. I couldn’t belief that it could work so fast. It softened I skin on my whole body something I have never had the luxury of having.
